IAN TELFER ET L’EXPLOITATION MINIÈRE*

Ian Telfer est le PDG de GoldCorp, le 3e plus grand producteur d’or au monde. Son nom a été donné SANS CONSULTATION de la communauté universitaire à l’École de gestion de l’Université d’Ottawa. GoldCorp se vante d’avoir des coûts d’opération extrêmement bas. Pourquoi? Notamment parce que GoldCorp utilise des procédés d’extraction extrêmement polluants, libérant des cochonneries comme du plomb et de l’arsenic dans l’environnement.

–    La compagnie a plaidé coupable à 3 CHEFS D’ACCUSATIONS face à la loi ontarienne sur les ressources en eau de l’Ontario en 2005 à cause de ses activités minières à Red Lake (Ministère de l’Environnement de l’Ontario).
–    Le gouvernement du Honduras a poursuivi GoldCorp pour
« POLLUTION EXCESSIVE » en juin 2007.
–    Au Guatemala, GoldCorp conteste un référendum local REJETANT À 98%
l’implantation d’une mine.
–    Toujours au Guatemala, elle poursuit en justice, depuis le mois d’octobre 2007, des leaders autochtones de la région de San Marcos pour avoir MANIFESTÉS PACIFIQUEMENT contre les activités de la compagnie (Mining Watch). La production minière continue malgré l’opposition.

L’Université se soucie-t-elle de la provenance de l’argent qu’elle empoche? NOUS, OUI!

IAN TELFER’S GOLD MINES EXPLOITATION*

Ian Telfer is the CEO of GoldCorp, the world’s third largest gold producer. Telfer’s name was given to the University’s School of Management WITHOUT CONSULTING the University community. GoldCorp fancies itself as being a cost effective gold-mining company. Why? GoldCorp uses EXTREMELY POLLUTING extracting processes that release crap like arsenic into the environment.

-The corporation pled GUILTY FOR 3 CHARGES under the Ontarian law on water resources in 2005 for its mining activities in Red Lake (Ontarian Ministry of the Environment).
-The Honduran government sued GoldCorp in June 2007 for “EXCESSIVE POLLUTION”
-In Guatemala, GoldCorp challenges the results of a local referendum REJECTING AT 98% the implementation a mine.
– Since October 2007, GoldCorp has been pursuing legal actions against First-Nations leaders of the San Marcos region for having PACIFICALLY PROTESTED against the corporation’s polluting mining activities (Mining Watch).
Nevertheless, gold is still extracted today in the region…
